Why use a FIRESTONE Airmount isolator rather than a coil spring or other type of isolator?
1. UNSURPASSED ISOLATION CAPABILITY Airmount isolators can provide the highest degree of isolation of any type vibration isolator. System natural frequencies as low as 60 cycles per minute (1 Hertz) are available. The addition of an auxiliary reservoir can provide even lower system frequencies. In order to achieve similar results from a conventional coil spring isolator, a real deflection of 230mm would be required. 2. CONSTANT ISOLATION EFFICIENCY Airmount isolators are unique in that the system’s natural frequency does not change significantly with changes in load. This unique feature, combined with accurate height control, will allow the use of the same Airmount isolator at each mounting point of an unevenly loaded machine. 3. ACCURATE HEIGHT CONTROL Airmount isolators provide accurate height control through regulation of internal air pressure. This feature eliminates the fatigue and permanent set found in the use of other types of vibration isolators. 4. WIDE SIZE RANGE Airmount isolators are capable of isolating loads of 45kg per mounting point to over 45 000 kg mounting point. 5. COMPACT INSTALLED HEIGHT Airmount isolators can carry the loads and provide the isolation described above at installed heights as low as 65mm. Coil springs providing equal isolation would require a free height of 127mm to 635 mm. 6. EXTENDED EQUIPMENT LIFE Airmount isolators extend equipment life through their superior isolation capabilities. 7. EFFECTIVE NOISE REDUCTION Airmount isolators reduce structurally transmitted noise. Airmount isolators are also quiet in themselves, since there is no spring chatter as found in conventional coil springs. 8. VERSATILE Airmount isolators can be used not only to protect structural members from vibrating machinery, but are also widely used to protect delicate equipment from structurally transmitted vibration. Like anything in life, it is important to start modifications with a good, strong foundation. As impressive as the latest offerings from Subaru are, the beginning of their great foundations accompanied the launch of the Impreza in 1992. Designed as a small, lightweight family sedan, it did not take long for people to figure out just how performance-capable these cars were. While gaining popularity in off-road, rally racing, the Impreza’s reputation eventually found its way onto the streets and—lets face it—an off-road stance is not really what you’re looking for.
If you’re dreaming of hitting a course or laying low at a car show with your first-generation Impreza (more so than driving through the woods and jumping hills), then you should check out our track-tested, bolt-on, adjustable air suspension. To take care of the front end, we coupled our smooth-riding, 2B6 double-bellows bag with a threaded body, 30-way damping, adjustable monotube strut. To add to your level of control over your driving experience, we have installed red anodized, adjustable camber plates made from T6061 aluminum.
For the rear, we used a threaded body monotube strut, topped off with adjustable camber plates and progressive-rate, sleeve-style bags. These damping, adjustable rear struts complement the front to ensure the best possible ride and handling for your Impreza.

The 30 clicks of adjustment aren’t just for fun, but allow you, the user, to dial in your preferred handling, feel, or desired ride quality. The range goes from super-stiff to really soft, adjusting rebound and compression simultaneously. The struts weigh considerably less than the coil spring parts you remove, reducing unsprung weight—a benefit to both ride and handling.
Slammed MK4’s are pretty hard to beat—unless you can have that same slammed look and have amazing corner-carving ability. The Air Lift Performance threaded body struts will not only offer you the ability to lay subframe, but will also give you superior handling…all without sacrificing ride comfort. Lowered coils or coilovers will give you some of these features, but you’ll always find yourself compromising at least one of your favorite ride characteristics. With our extensive racetrack testing, you can rest assured that your car will not only perform on the street, but on the track as well. In order to drop the front 5.8 inches from factory height, we went with a fully threaded mono-tube strut, utilizing a smooth-riding, double-bellow air spring. Bolt-in camber plates, made of T6061 red anodized aluminum, provide alignment-tuning capability and help with wheel fitment.
Thanks to the threaded body strut design, the height of the lower mount can be changed, enabling you to further adjust your height depending on wheel and tire size. With 30 different levels of damping, you can go from a soft, smooth ride to a race-car-like stiffness with the twist of the knob. Best of all, this kit allows you to retain your sway bar for the best in handling performance.
For the rear, we use a progressive-rate, tapered sleeve nestled in the place of the coil spring. This style of air spring will give you excellent ride quality and overall handling performance. A threaded body mono-tube shock with 30 levels of damping adjustment take the bounce out of the system, giving your ride very predictable and stable handling. All of this equates to a 4.9 inches drop in the rear.
