So what does it take to have such a versatile suspension? It all starts with a strong foundation. In this case, that foundation is the struts: Air Lift uses 30-way adjustable, monotube struts with a serious range of damping adjustment, and specially tuned to match the air springs. Monotube construction is the preferred choice—both in racing and for us—for its sensitivity to small inputs, as well as its great ability to shed heat when pushed to the limit. The 30 clicks of adjustment aren’t just for fun, but allow you, the user, to dial in your preferred handling, feel, or desired ride quality. The range goes from super-stiff to really soft, adjusting rebound and compression simultaneously. The struts weigh considerably less than the coil spring parts you remove, reducing unsprung weight—a benefit to both ride and handling.
When Volkswagen needed a successor to the wildly popular Beetle in the 70,s they developed their first water-cooled, front-wheel-drive chassis called the MK1. This combination not only allows you to adjust the height with the air spring, but also allows you to change the length of the strut by adjusting the lower mount position, so you can really fine-tune the ride height you desire. Featuring adjustable camber plates carved out of T6061 red anodized aluminum, and 30 different levels of damping, this suspension will give you enough adjustments to turn your MK1 into a corner carver—not just a hard parker.

In the front kit, our threaded body, monotube strut takes the place of your existing strut, allowing your front end to drop 3.9 inches from the original stock height using our smooth-riding double-bellows air springs. With our 30-way damping struts, you can not only adjust the height of your vehicle, but you can also go from race car stiff to a nice, plush ride with the simple twist of a damping knob. No need for you to run out and buy your own camber plates—our kit comes with an adjustable camber plate made out of red anodized T6061 aluminium.
Our rear kit utilizes the same monotube, threaded strut body, mated to a progressive, sleeve-style air spring, for the best in ride quality and killer handling. The upper mounts are carved out of T6061 aluminum, bathed in a sexy red hue and topped off with high-quality spherical bearings. Just like the front, the rear struts offer you 30 levels of damping adjustment, and will drop 4.8 inches from stock height.
The variable spring rate allows for a nearly constant natural frequency with changing loads. This results in consistent vibration isolation with variable loading.
High Load Carrying Capacity
Due to the Marsh Mellow® spring’s greater deflection capabilities and load carrying influences of the fabric reinforcement, it can carry a greater load when compared to an all rubber part of the same modulus and dimensions.
Excellent Vibration Isolation
Low natural frequencies provide excellent isolation offorced frequencies in the range of 800-1200 cycles per minute (13-20Hz).
Lateral Vibration Isolation
The lateral spring rate of a Marsh Mellow® spring can be less than the vertical spring rate, resulting in a lower lateral natural frequency. Marsh Mellow springs provide better vibration isolation in all degrees of freedom.
Compact Overall Size The ability to support greater loads and maintain a cylindrical shape results in a smaller overall size of the Marsh Mellow spring compared to an all rubber spring with identical load capacity.
